Eggs and Les Baux

We fInally made it to the infamous Eggs/Aix en Provence. After naming our blog after Aix en Provence it did seem odd not to at least stop and explore the town. We found our way to the centre and discovered a market in full swing selling honey, spices, nougat, macaroons, jewellery etc. Aix is a lovely town with elegant buildings and streets lined with plane trees. It is a university town which means it is well equipped to appeal to all things youthful. James is really getting the hang of zipping around the streets and parking in strange places, just like the locals. Afterwards we drove to Les Baux de Provence, our base for the following 3 nights. Les Baux is a medieval village with an incredible castle as it's centrepiece. We are staying in a bed and breakfast called Le Prince Noir, an amazing place partly carved into the rock wall. The village surrounding the castle is packed with tourists by day, but at night we have the cobblestone narrow streets to ourselves. James says it is a bit like staying at Sovereign Hill except it is an authentic 16th century French village. The castle itself dates back to the 11th century. There are many lovely shops selling traditional French linens, soaps, perfumes, olive oil and to Jessie's delight crepes, lollies and pastries. For the readers in Eltham it is Lilies on Brougham x 100. I wish I had more photos to show you the beauty of the place but our iPad is full of photos and I can't download anymore.

  2. Stunning! That rock wall in the corridor looks amazing, wish I was sitting at that sunny table too.
