The French Wilderness

I am leading everyone astray with that title. We aren't really in the wilds of France. We are in the Dordogne region which is so lush and green and covered with oak trees you could almost expect to bump into a bear or pack of wolves. It's a lovely change from being in big city Barcelona. The photo below gives you an idea of the countryside we drove through. Madame Tom Tom was being particularly adventurous and took us down back lanes not even the French farmers visit. Very Twilight for those who are in the know. We found ourselves driving through French villages so exquisite I am sure they weren't real. Except when we saw a Maccas sign plastered on the stone walls.
We visited Chateau des Milandes a sleeping beauty castle where Josephine Baker once lived. Filled with her costumes, famous banana belt, and displays of her time as a spy during WW2. The castle itself was built in 1489 and had glorious fireplaces, turrets, spiral staircases and panelled rooms.
There was a Birds of Prey display with magnificent owls, eagles, falcons and hawks. The Bald Eagle swooped over our heads which was terrifying. We made a spectacle of ourselves as we screamed. We always seem to be the noisiest people on guided tours, in restaurants or in hotels giving Australians a bad name. Sigh.
Finally we arrived at Sarlat, a highlight in our journey through France. But pictures of that to come. We are heading off now to Sarlat market to buy lunch after we find Jessie's missing shoe. Another sigh.
