We have arrived at Cinque Terre on the Ligurian coastline of Italy. This a big highlight for Jessie and I as we have longed to visit this picturesque fishing village for some time. It is strange seeing an image of a place then actually seeing it with your own eyes. It is far less touristy than I imagined. The tourists tend to be made up of keen hikers decked out in hiking boots and backpacks. This village is not for people with phobias about height as you will see from our photos. The village clings to the sheer cliff face of the coastline. Our bed and breakfast is up an incredibly steep set of stairs and yes we carried our luggage all the way up. We came in by train through long tunnels carved into the cliffs. Everything is vertical which may explain why I feel slightly dizzy.
We just ate a delicious lunch of stuffed anchovies and calamari washed down with bianco vino and beer.
We will have a long steep walk up to our B&B after this. Here are a few photos of this unique place. The rock walls were created by the locals over a 200 year period and the surrounding grape vines were grown in a terraced pattern surrounding the village. What mountain goats the locals are!
