Perhaps an overview of so far

We have not stopped since landing in Rome. I think perhaps we tailored this holiday based on what may have been achievable in a familiar territory. Everything we do is new and unfamiliar, language, culture, currency, traffic, crowds, the landscape and even the pillows take some getting used to. Just crossing the roads requires focus as the traffic comes from the wrong/different direction. As soon as we feel even a little familiar it's time to move on. We have a little time each evening to be still but even this is usually spent making sure things are charged, downloaded, uploaded, updated, planned, booked, washed, packed, noted and read up on.
We have taken well over 1000 photos so far and I am hoping that when I get home I will finally have some time to reflect on what I have seen, learnt, experienced. It seems everywhere you look there is something amazing to see. Just a moment ago, while sitting by the water in Venice watching the water taxis and looking at the architecture on the other side of the Canal of San Marco, an enormous cruise liner drifts by. The word enormous is not big enough. Everything is just.... surreal.
Exquisite glass, leather ware made by craftsmen, masks and costumes for masquerade parties where I could imagine that i would need to keep my eyes wide shut.
Every place we have been so far deserves more time spent than we have. It seems my antipasto platter is a good metaphor for our time in Italy, and we are only a week in.

  1. Yeah, the pace is so different when you have to process so much all the time - I'm feeling exhausted just reading it! The photos of Assissi were very Voltaraesque! :-)
